Data broker bill heads to president’s desk with exemption for service providers

The Senate on April 23 voted 79-18 to pass a national security assistance package that also includes the Protecting Americans’ Data from Foreign Adversaries Act, a bill that aims to prevent countries like China from accessing sensitive data -- including for potential artificial-intelligence operations -- through data brokers but provides a carveout for “service providers.”
