BSA-The Software Alliance has added Cohere, an artificial intelligence enterprise platform company, as a global member, the trade association announced May 1.

In addition, BSA said, Cohere director of legal Kosta Starostin is joining the BSA board.

BSA CEO Victoria Espinel said, “Cohere is pioneering state-of-the-art enterprise AI models that will transform businesses and help to enrich our work across the BSA membership to develop policy solutions that help to build trust in AI and promote the adoption of responsibly developed technology.”

Starostin said, “We’re proud to be joining BSA | The Software Alliance to continue to support enterprise customers and help advocate for AI policy solutions that balance potential risks with the benefits of technological progress. Our industry-leading AI models like our new Command R family will help businesses across sectors like financial services, technology, retail and more boost productivity and efficiency with their workforces.”

Cohere is “co-headquartered” in Toronto and San Francisco, and describes itself as operating “at the forefront of ML/AI research to bring the latest advancements in language AI to our platform.”

The BSA release explains, “Cohere’s technology is optimized for enterprise-grade generative AI, search and advanced retrieval. Cohere’s scalable AI models, Command R and R+, are multilingual in 10 languages and excel at business-critical capabilities like retrieval augmented generation (RAG) to mitigate hallucinations and tool use to build agents that can automate complex business processes.”

It says, “These models enable businesses to move beyond proof of concept and into production with AI. Cohere’s is also cloud-agnostic to meet companies where their data is and offers the highest levels of security and data privacy.”

BSA expects to make additional announcements of new members from the AI community in the coming days, according to a spokesman.
