The feds are back and industry looks for action on preempting state AI rules

Federal preemption of state artificial intelligence regulation is a front-of-mind issue for industry leaders as the federal government powers up after a 43-day shutdown and both chambers of Congress are set to resume legislative activity.

President Trump late on Nov. 12 signed a short-term funding measure to reopen the government and stakeholders on Nov. 13 urged policymakers to move expeditiously on crucial AI policy areas, including defining federal-state boundaries for regulation.
