Newsom signs industry-opposed bill for transparency in frontier AI models

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) has signed into law a bill aimed at enhancing online safety by establishing transparency “guardrails” on the largest companies that develop frontier artificial intelligence models, despite calls for a veto by major tech industry groups.
