Senators explore controlling remote compute access, among AI policies for NDAA

An amendment seeking to add “remote access” to conditions under which the U.S. can prohibit foreign persons of concern from obtaining dual-use technologies is among the most notable AI-related provisions in the 733 amendments senators have proposed attaching to the annual National Defense Authorization Act.

The Senate on Sept. 4 approved the motion to proceed to consideration of the fiscal 2026 NDAA, teeing up amendment votes next week. The current list of 733 will be pared down as amendments...
