Authors’ group sides with Anthropic on appeal of class-action order in copyright case

Tech industry associations were joined by an influential collection of content creators in supporting Anthropic’s motion for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit to reverse a district court order granting class certification of a case over claims the AI developer violated copyright law in order to train its large language model.

The somewhat unlikely alliance could be instrumental in avoiding what supporters of the industry say could be a “death-knell” for AI investment and innovation.
