NIST AI chief stresses measurement as ‘next step’

Elham Tabassi, the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s chief artificial intelligence advisor, says the agency is now working on how to measure the risks and benefits of AI after releasing a risk management framework earlier this year.

“We published the framework in January, and now we are working on benchmarks and testing approaches to measure the trustworthiness of AI technologies,” Tabassi wrote in a Nov. 20 blog post.
