Commerce emphasizes AI benefits in latest CHIPS Act award

The Biden administration has announced a preliminary agreement with Wolfspeed, Inc. to help fund construction of “the United States’ largest silicon carbide wafer manufacturing facility” in North Carolina, which will expand domestic production of semiconductors essential to artificial intelligence development.

NIST officials signaled last month that a spate of announcements would be coming this fall on CHIPS and Science Act awards to bolster semiconductor manufacturing within the United States.
