White House reviewing BIS-proposed rule to trigger reporting requirements on AI development

The Commerce Department’s Bureau of Industry and Security has submitted to the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs its proposal for a rule that would require certain developers of artificial intelligence models and operators of computer clusters to disclose information the White House has determined is important for national security.

The June 5 notice of the proposed BIS rule now pending regulatory review at OIRA is titled, “Establishment of Reporting Requirement for the Development of Advanced Artificial Intelligence Models...
