U.S.-China security commission calls for ‘Manhattan Project’ to win AI arms race

A congressionally mandated commission on assessing economic and national security risks from China is recommending lawmakers fund a “Manhattan Project” for developing artificial general intelligence, or technologies surpassing human cognitive abilities, to win the AI arms race with Beijing, according to the group’s latest annual report.
