Trump’s reg freeze suspends Commerce’s push to deny China access to AI technologies

President Trump’s order suspending all rulemakings has snagged a number of Commerce Department initiatives pushed out in the final days of the previous administration intended to deny China access to U.S.-based artificial intelligence technologies.

Among those Commerce initiatives are unprecedented export controls, restrictions on imported software and hardware for connected vehicles powered by AI, and controversial reporting rules for dual-use AI foundation models issued under former President Biden’s AI executive order.
