Tech leader ITI cautions administration on chip tariffs hindering AI development

The Information Technology Industry Council says possible tariffs on computer chip imports could deflect efforts to achieve U.S. dominance in artificial intelligence, as companies are in the early stages of building up semiconductor manufacturing capacity in the United States.

ITI urges the administration to “[e]nsure that its actions maintain an unimpeded flow of semiconductors to critical applications such as AI while industry continues its work to increase domestic capacity across the semiconductor value chain,” in its May 6 submission...
