Senate approves bill to ban abusive AI content amid encryption concerns

The Senate has unanimously approved the TAKE IT DOWN Act that would require online platforms to remove abusive content, increasingly generated by artificial intelligence, despite continued objections by some lawmakers that it could undermine encryption and risk consumer privacy and security.

The Senate on Dec. 3 approved by unanimous consent the “Tools to Address Known Exploitation by Immobilizing Technological Deepfakes on Websites and Networks Act,” which was cleared by the Commerce Committee in July.
