Security analysts question improved AI efficiencies amid DeepSeek consternation

Researchers at the influential RAND Corp. predict U.S.-based developers of artificial intelligence are unlikely to improve the technology’s energy efficiency anytime soon, potentially fueling concerns about the recent release of Chinese company DeepSeek’s dramatically efficient AI chatbot.

The DeepSeek announcement prompted worries among U.S. policymakers that efforts to counter China’s race for AI supremacy were misdirected and questions on whether building out new energy sources was necessary.
