Schumer offers and GOP rejects AI election protection bills

Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-NY) offered for unanimous consent two bills designed to protect elections from the emerging threat of artificial intelligence but Sen. Deb Fischer (R-NE) objected, setting aside the legislation until presumably sponsors can muster the 60 votes needed to overcome such obstacles.

The Senate standoff on July 31 brought to the floor a partisan squabble over free speech protections that occurred when the election bills cleared the Rules Committee largely along party lines in May....
