NIST AI innovation symposium will hear warnings from former industry official

The National Institute of Standards and Technology will likely hear warnings from a former board member at OpenAI about the pace of industry’s development of artificial intelligence in the absence of mature scientific risk measurements, at its two-day AI symposium this week.

The former industry executive advocated for “light-touch” policies that would lay the basis for government oversight to address both current and future AI risks, in recent testimony to Congress.
