Lawmakers hear support for use of Defense Production Act, reporting requirements in Biden AI order

The Oct. 30 executive order on artificial intelligence makes appropriate use of the Defense Production Act to compel companies controlling certain foundation models to report aspects of their training and security to the Commerce Department, according to a witness testifying today before the House Oversight Committee’s panel on cybersecurity, information technology and government innovation.
