Lawmakers debate AI preemption at spirited House Judiciary ‘Californication’ hearing

A House Judiciary panel was the forum for debate on the potential effects of federal preemption of state artificial intelligence regulation, with subcommittee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-CA) promising that action on AI legislation is coming up next.

Issa said the Sept. 18 hearing of the Judiciary courts, IP, AI and the Internet subcommittee would be the last in a series on AI and that a legislative markup will follow soon.

He called state AI regulation “a patchwork of indecision”...
