ITI urges policymakers to consider multiple distinctions related to AI model weights

The Information Technology Industry Council emphasizes the importance of considering multiple distinctions as the federal government crafts policies on “open” or “closed” artificial intelligence foundation models, while raising questions about potential “thresholds” for regulation, in comments to the National Telecommunications and Information Administration.

“NTIA should consider closed and open models to include a spectrum of foundation models,” ITI says in comments submitted to NTIA on March 27.
