Industry coalition asks BIS to decrease reporting frequency in rule for AI developers

Requiring developers of dual-use AI foundation models to answer questions about their activity every three months could hamper innovation in the field, the Alliance for Trust in AI told the Commerce Department’s Bureau of Industry and Security, suggesting instead an annual reporting rule.

Comments were due Oct. 11 on a rule BIS proposed thirty days earlier under President Biden’s 2023 executive order to promote the safe, secure and trustworthy development and use of AI.
