FTC contest to protect consumers from AI-powered voice cloning can include policy ideas

The Federal Trade Commission has opened a competition to stem harm arising from artificial intelligence tools used to impersonate voices and will accept submissions including policy proposals.

The challenge the FTC is launching today is focused on promoting the development of breakthrough ideas aimed at preventing, monitoring, and evaluating malicious use of voice cloning technology, whether it is a product, policy, or procedure,” the agency said in a Nov. 16 press release following its monthly open meeting.
