FCC votes to open proceeding on AI’s role in countering unwanted robocalls

The Federal Communications Commission has voted unanimously to issue a notice of inquiry on how artificial intelligence can be used to protect consumers “from unwanted and illegal telephone calls and text messages” under the authority of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act, posing questions to stakeholders on issues ranging from the definition of AI technologies to their impact on existing regulation.
