Data rights advocates fear ‘duty of care’ requirements in Kids Online Safety Act
The Center for Democracy and Technology argues that vague legal “duty of care” requirements for online platform companies in the recently revised Kids Online Safety Act would have the unintended consequence of politically driven censorship of content, in violation of First Amendment free-speech protections.
The bill would require platform companies to disclose algorithmic ranking systems including the use of artificial intelligence for displaying content to allow users to control what they see, with the intention of protecting children.
