Court grants protections for data exchanges in landmark New York Times copyright lawsuit

A federal district court issued a protective order to prevent the public disclosure of information to be collected and exchanged in the New York Times’ landmark copyright infringement lawsuit against OpenAI and Microsoft over the training of ChatGPT.

“Within 60 days after the final disposition of this action…each recipient must return all Protected Discovery Material to the producing party or destroy such material,” says a May 31 order by U.S. district court for southern New York Judge Sidney Stein....
