Civil society think tank assesses DHS’ AI uses, urges continued publication of inventory

New America, a self-described “think-and-action tank,” analyzes the Department of Homeland Security’s deployment of artificial intelligence based on the DHS 2024 “use case inventory,” and strongly urges the agency to maintain the inventory amid an expanding mission coupled with possible budget cuts.

“As the Trump administration commits to expanding DHS’s mission, and immigration is increasingly used to justify wider surveillance, DHS must maintain inventories that allow policymakers and civil society to hold the agency accountable,” the civil society group says...
