CDT report calls for life-cycle human oversight in AI public benefits systems

Accountability for government agencies using artificial intelligence in the distribution of public benefits must involve end-users and other humans throughout the design and operation of their systems, according to a new report from the Center for Democracy and Technology.

“The full range of people likely to be impacted by AI systems, particularly current recipients of benefits, need to have meaningful input into decisions about AI, including in its adoption, design, use, and oversight,” reads the report released Sept. 25....
