California’s AI regulatory safety bill passes Assembly, faces possible veto

California’s first-in-the-nation bill to establish new safety rules governing the largest and most powerful AI systems has cleared the state Assembly and is expected soon to clear a concurrent vote in the Senate, but still faces a potential veto by Gov. Gavin Newsom (D).
