California regulators launch comment process on controversial rules for AI use

The California Privacy Protection Agency is opening the formal public comment period for its controversial proposed rules governing business uses of artificial intelligence, or automated decision-making technologies, among other AI-related rules, setting a Jan. 14 deadline for public input.

CPPA Board members indicated a willingness to make revisions to the proposed rules when they voted to move them from draft to a formal rulemaking earlier this month.
