California lawmakers advance multiple AI bills for possible second votes this summer

California lawmakers have advanced a number of proposals for regulating artificial intelligence through one of the state legislature’s two chambers, setting the stage for possible second votes later this summer, including on an industry-opposed measure that would require AI developers to clear certain safety requirements before training new AI models.
