California expert panel releases framework for AI frontier model policies, rules

An expert panel convened last year by California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) has released a draft report providing a policy and potential regulatory framework for frontier artificial intelligence models, including recommended strategies to reduce risks -- suggestions that may be inserted into pending legislation in the California Legislature.

The panel is accepting written comments on the draft report through April 8; it expects to issue its final report in June.
