California bill bars employers from AI-powered hiring and firing decisions

A prominent California state senator has introduced a bill to bar employers from relying primarily on automated decision-making systems to make hiring, promotion, discipline or termination decisions without human oversight, while also prohibiting the use of ADS that tap personal worker information to “predict” what employees will do in the future.
