Authors propose AI training data inspection ‘protocol’ in landmark copyright lawsuit

The Authors Guild representing plaintiffs in a class-action lawsuit against OpenAI is asking a federal district court to approve a proposed order for inspecting how the tech company trains its generative artificial intelligence models, an issue that is core to the copyright infringement allegations against the company.

“Training Data shall be made available for inspection in electronic format at OpenAI’s offices in San Francisco CA, or at a secure location determined by OpenAI,” the plaintiffs say in a Sept....
