Approps roundup: House panel clears Commerce Dept., health spending bills with AI provisions

The House Appropriations Committee this week approved the final two spending bills on its annual to-do list -- the Commerce-Justice-Science measure and the Labor-HHS bill -- sending to the floor packages containing an assortment of artificial intelligence provisions.

House appropriators on Sept. 10 approved on a 34-28 vote the fiscal 2026 spending bill for the Commerce and Justice departments, and science agencies, including $1.28 billion to support the National Institute of Standards and Technology with a focus on AI work....
